Opposition parties, farmer associations in Telangana to protest on the issue

Adilabad: The AP government has created an embarrassing situation for the Telangana government by enhancing the ex gratia and loan settlement ceiling limit to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 1.5 lakh for the families of farmers who commited suicide.

The orders, issued on February 19, state that the ex gratia and loan settlement ceiling limit was enhanced to Rs 3.50 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh from the existing Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000.

Now, Opposition parties and farmer associations in Telangana are preparing to begin protests demanding that the Telangana government enhance ex gratia and one-time settlement of debts and loans at least on par with Andhra Pradesh.

Human Rights Forum (HRF) state secretary Atram Bhujangarao said the agriculture crisis is worse in Telangana compared to AP, and the state had seen more farmers committing suicide.
