Nagaland mob lynching: Curfew imposed in Dimapur
Some organisations blocked the national highways to protest against the incident.
Guwahati: The situation in trouble-torn Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland, has started limping back to normalcy on Friday but state administration decided to clamp night curfew after an angry mob lynched a rape accused by dragging him out from the central jail on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the body of the victim, Syed Sirf Khan, was taken to his native place in Assam’s Karimganj district where some organisations blocked the national highways to protest against the incident.
The Dimapur superintendent of police, Mr Meren Jamir, said that police were trying to bring the situation under control. Admitting that there were lapses on part of administration which failed to control the situation, Nagaland chief minister T. R. Zeliang on Friday ordered an inquiry into the incident. He also spoke to his counterpart Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi who condemned the incident seeking action against those who lynched the accused.
