Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police has beaten the police departments of major metros like New Delhi and Mumbai in positive reviews and ratings of their mobile application, Hawk Eye, on the Google Play store.
In just a little more than two months of launching Hawk Eye the number of downloads of the application has reached 30,798 and more than 67% of reviews by app users have given five stars for the app.
Inspector Srinath Reddy who heads the IT cell of the Hyderabad City Police proudly said, “Everyday 250-350 people download and register with the mobile app. Around 150 complaints are received everyday under various sections like traffic violations, happening crimes and crimes against women through this app. Citizens get a receipt and status report for their complaint.”
Since the app’s launch on December 31, 2014 around 2,000 complaints have been received of which 60% are about traffic violations. 33 cases of eve teasing have also been received along with three SOS. To reach more people the police will soon be launching this app for IOS users. Three new features will be added soon. They are Traffic Updates (TU), Notifications and Facebook links. While TU will be giving real time information of the traffic situation at major junctions, alerts like details of wanted criminals will be sent through the Notifications tab. A ‘Facebook Links’ tab will give direct links to the FB pages of all police stations in the city.
The mobile app of Delhi Police, Himmat and ICE of the Mumbai Police have very few features. They are mainly centered around SOS alerts.
In Hawk Eye, apart from SOS, one can upload details like name, Aadhaar number and even photo of domestic helps, names of people like electricians and dish TV repairmen or even their employees. The SOS can be accessed in one click and an SMS is sent instantly to six police officials.
