K Chandrasekhar Rao’s minister now a member of Opposition!
Hyderabad: Commercial taxes minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, being a minister in the K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s Cabinet, will attend the Assembly Session from Saturday from the Treasury benches while continuing as a Telugu Desam Legislator as per the records. This is the first time a minister belonging to a Opposition party will participate in the proceedings of the House as a ruling party member while his resignation to his membership has still not been accepted.
Mr Yadav was elected as Telugu Desam MLA from Sanathnagar Assembly segment in the last elections and he submitted his resignation before becoming a Cabinet minister in the TRS government on December 16 last year. However, Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary has kept the acceptance of the resignation pending for the last few months. Commercial tax minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav was among the three TD MLAs who defected to TRS and the only one who had submitted his resignation.
Earlier, the TRS leadership dropped enough hints that to overcome the embarrassment, the Speaker would accept the resignation a day before the commencement of the Assembly Budget session. However, sources close to the Chief Minister told this newspaper that since the AP High Court had taken up the MLA’s defection and disqualification case for hearing, it would be proper to wait for some more days rather than rushing with acceptance of the resignation.
For their part, Telugu Desam leaders are going to create scenes in the Assembly including raising slogans and demonstrating with placards against the indecision of the presiding officers on keeping the disqualification petitions pending for the last few months.
“We have even decided to disturb the Governor’s address on Saturday on this issue,” said TD floor leader in the Legislative Council Arike Narasa Reddy.
Sources said, starting Monday, the TD will use novel protest methods in the Assembly like pasting the name of Mr Yadav on the seat allotted to him in Opposition benches.
“We will see how the Speaker allots a seat to Talasani in the Treasury benches while allotting a seat in the Opposition bench too, this is a puzzle. No member can be allotted two seats in a House. We will force the Speaker to accept the resignation immediately to avoid this unpleasant controversy,” said senior TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy.
