Sreesanth's family trying to get court sympathy, says Tihar Jail officer

Sreesanth's family claimed that he was attacked with a knife when he was in Tihar Jail

Mumbai: The recent claim by former Indian fast bowler S. Sreesanth's family that the player was attacked with a knife has not gone well with the Tihar Jail authorities, according to sources.

His family had reportedly said that Sreesanth was attacked with a knife while he was in jail after being arrested for his alleged involvement in IPL spot-fixing in 2013.

"This is totally untrue", Sunil Gupta, the law officer, Tihar Jail, said over telephone from Delhi.

"The bowler never complained to this, nor did he bring it to our knowledge,” he added.

"Perhaps Sreesanth's family is trying to get court sympathy."

"Sreesanth's trial has now been completed in a court in Delhi. The verdict is expected to be pronounced early this month. The family is trying to influence the mind of the judge by releasing this kind of story."

"A true judge will never be influenced with this kind of statement,” believed Gupta.

The 32-year-old pace bowler, while playing for his franchise Rajasthan Royals, was arrested on charges of alleged match fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013 and is presently out on bail.

On 12 December 2013, Sreesanth married his Jaipur girlfriend Bhuvneshwari Kumari of Shekhawat family at Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple in Kerala.
