Act once passed will increase the strength of the AP Council from the current 50 to 58

New Delhi: During the voice vote raise the strength of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, some Opposition members were heard shouting “no”. It was, however, introduced as the number of “ayes” was more.
The Act once passed will increase the strength of the AP Council from the current 50 to 58. The Union Cabinet had in December last year effected a few changes to the AP Reorganisation Act.
The Cabinet had approved amending of Sections 23(1), 23(2)(i) to rectify the anomaly in allocating the number of seats in the Council and to enhance the total number of seats to 58 as per the provisions of the Constitution.
