PDP demands return of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s body

A group of PDP MLAs and officials issued the statement in Jammu

Srinagar: The Peoples’ Democratic Party stoked a second controversy in two days on Monday, demanding the return of the mortal remains of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged and buried in Delhi’s Tihar Jail nearly two years ago.

This came a day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed triggered a row saying Pakistan and militants had contributed to the peaceful conduct of Assembly elections.

The statement was put out apparently as a trade-off for a vote in the state’s Legislative Council elections. A group of PDP MLAs and officials issued the statement in Jammu asserting that their party “has always maintained that late Afzal Guru’s hanging was a travesty of justice as constitutional requirements/ process was not followed in hanging him out of turn.”
