Industry-ready land crunch in Telangana

Only 64,000 acres are suitable for immediate allotment to industries

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has created a land bank of 2.34 lakh acres for allotment to industries. However, only 64,000 acres have been listed under Category A which are suitable for immediate allotment. Over 1.06 lakh acres have been listed under Category C comprising hills, mountains and big stones, which need a lot of investment and time to make them suitable for setting up industries. While Karimnagar topped the list in the land bank, with availability of 55,000 acres, Nalgonda remained at the bottom with 4,495 acres. Interestingly, there are no government lands available in Hyderabad district for allotment to industries.

The other districts to figure in the land bank include: Ranga Reddy (19,257 acres), Medak (15,709 acres), Mahbubnagar (13,439 acres), Adilabad (19,966 acres), Warangal (24,732 acres), Nizamabad (61,690 acres) and Khammam (20,070 acres).

In category B, about 64,870 acres have been listed, which require minor works to make them suitable. “The land bank is available with TSIIC now. Investors can directly apply for lands online. The officials will examine their proposals and allot land. The government is also planning to liberalise land allotment norms,” said Jupally Krishna Rao, the minister for industries.

The government is planning to give powers to district collectors on allotment of land up to 5 acres. For more than 5 acres, different cells will be created at district and state-level, which will take a decision.
