Delhi rapist says victim was at fault, she deserved it

The interview forms part of a documentary, India’s Daughter, that BBC Four will telecast

London: One of the rapists convicted to death for the horrendous December 16, 2012, rape case has claimed that his victim was to be blamed for the sexual assault and murder.

Mukesh Singh, who was driving the bus, says in a mind-numbing documentary to be telecast on BBC, “You can not clap with one hand — it takes two hands. A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy.

Boys and girls are not equal. Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong clothes. About 20 per cent of girls are good.”

The interview forms part of a documentary, India’s Daughter, that BBC Four will telecast on March 8, International Women’s Day. Speaking about the rape, which he referred to as “an accident”, Singh suggested the rape and beatings were to teach the victim and her friend a lesson that they should not have been out late at night, according to a statement by the BBC.

He said the victim should not have fought back. “She should have just been silent and allowed the rape. Then they’d have dropped her off after ‘doing her’, and only hit the boy.” He said that executing him and the other convicted rapist-murderers would endanger future rape victims.
