Sydney: England cricket team captain Eoin Morgan has come under criticism for not singing the national anthem, but the skipper has defended it by claiming that it's a long story and a personal thing.

The British media has questioned whether Morgan fails to sing ' God Save The Queen' because he is making a political statement. The skipper reportedly doesn't sing the national anthem at all, not even in six years in the England shirt.
However, Morgan claims that it's pretty simple. He said that he has never sang the national anthem when playing for Ireland or England, adding that it does not make him any less proud to be an English cricketer, News.com.au reported.

The skipper claimed that he is extremely proud to be in the position that he is in and privileged to be captain of the World Cup side.
Morgan's former deputy headmaster Kevin Jennings said that it's not a political statement at all. He said that the skipper is a very shy fellow and he would imagine that Morgan would be quite self-conscious singing in that context.
Jennings claimed that he would say it's as simple as that, adding that Morgan certainly wasn't in the school choir. He said that he knows people could read something into it, but he doesn't believe it's political.
Media celebrity Piers Morgan calls for the skipper to pipe up during the national anthem, saying that it's embarrassing that he stays quiet.
And if you want to captain England, @Eoin16 - then sing the damn national anthem, too.

However, defending the Irishman former England football captain Gary Lineker said that one shows their pride with their performance, adding that one gives their all on the field, insisting that singing is for show, an irrelevance.
@piersmorgan @Eoin16 why? I used to hate singing it. Still do. Mainly because I'm hideously bad. Don't understand why it's important.
