Mayawati opposes Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's statement

Mayawati said the credit should go to the Election Commission

New Delhi: Opposing Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's statement crediting Pakistan and Hurriyat for the smooth conduct of Assembly elections in the state, BSP supremo Mayawati on Monday said the credit should go to the Election Commission.

"It (smooth conduct of polls) was because of the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner which had a major role in conducting elections successfully in Jammu and Kashmir," Mayawati told reporters outside Parliament.

That Sayeed, who took oath on Sunday, gave credit of the successful conduct of elections in the state to someone else is not correct, she stressed.

The opposition staged a walkout of Lok Sabha seeking a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sayeed's remark. The BSP leader also expressed doubts over the continuance of the BJP-PDP combine in the border state.

"Both BJP and PDP have different ideology and policy. Both have started giving different views after the formation of the government. I do not think the coalition government will continue for long," she said.
