Budget 2015: Domestic leather footwear to get cheaper

The move would help in pushing the 'Make in India' campaign

Mumbai: To give a boost to the domestic leather industry, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday announced that the excise duty on footwear having retail price of more than 1000 per pair reduced by 6%, which means that the prices of domestic leather footwear would fall.

The move would help in pushing the 'Make in India' campaign of the Prime Minister as leather is one of the 25 major sectors identified in the campaign," they said.

Leather Industry in the past demanded the duty reduction and exemption to enhance competitiveness of the Indian goods in the international market.
