Telangana, Andhra Pradesh reach consensus on division of police

Full allotments by June

Hyderabad: AP and TS governments came to an agreement on the division of state-level cadre of police officials in a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday.

C.R. Kamalanathan, the chairman of state-level cadre division committee, held a meeting with I.Y.R. Krishna Rao and Rajeev Sharma, the chief secretaries of AP and TS respectively.

AP secretary L. Premchandra Reddy, TS government secretary Ramakrishna Rao, senior police officers and others officials attended the meeting. Both the AP and TS governments have had different opinions on the allotment of state-level cadre of police officials.

The TS government has demanded allotment of more Special Task Force (STF) police posts for the state, as it has more Naxal problems than AP. However, the AP government has opposed this and demanded allotment on the basis of population.

During the meeting held on Thursday, both the governments came to an agreement to divide the police staff on the basis of population (58:42) and both governments can sanction new posts where-ever necessary.

Meanwhile, the permanent allotment of state-level cadre in all departments in both the states should be completed by next June. The meeting authorised AP secretary Premchandra Reddy and TS secretary Ramakrishna Rao to divide the staff betw-een the two governments where there are disputes.

There are 89 departments, and in the case of 75 departments, the governments have reached an understanding. In the remaining 14 departments, there are some disputes. The Kamalanathan Committee has prepared the list for permanent allotments in seven departments after the employees gave their options.
