Bus stand to propel Kalamassery
KOCHI: The Kalamassery technology hub is set to have a major public amenity with the government ordering Kinfra to set apart land to build a bus stand by the Kalamassary municipality.
The project has been hanging fire for quite some time but Kinfra has not been willing to set aside land for it as it was not an industrial venture. But the public had been clamouring for it since there was no continuous connectivity to the place which housed a lot of public institutions.
Once the bus stand comes, there will be more connectivity to HMT, Startup Village, NUALS, XIME and Ernakulam Medical College which are located there. The proposed cancer centre and science city too will benefit from it.
The memorandums in this regard had reached the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who took an active interest in it and directed the Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty to intervene.
The Industries Minister convened a meeting in the state capital recently which was attended by the KINFRA Managing Director G C Gopala Pillai and PWD Minister and local MLA V K Ebrahim Kunju.
The Kalamassery Municipality has to fulfill its promise of building the bus stand within six months of getting the land. A senior Kinfra official said that the formal decision of handing over the land will have to be taken by its director board. “The quantum of land to be given also is yet to be decided,” he said.
