Andhra Pradesh takes de-salination route

The AP government has decided to de-saline sea water
Hyderabad: With depleting water table and tussle over water resources between the two governments, the AP government has decided to de-saline sea water in order to meet its drinking water needs.
“An Israel-based company — IDE technologies is setting up a de-salination industry in Vishakapatnam of capacity generating water up to 500 MLD,” said Ken Udai Sagar, president Indo-Israel Chamber of Commerce Industry. He added that, “A committee on this regard was formed six months back with two experts from IDE technologies, two from AP government and an IAS officer. The detailed project report (DPR) is underway and the project is likely to hit the ground by June end.”
The project will be taken up in a phased manner with each 100 MLD unit costing Rs 500 crore. The company would be building the plant on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model.
Avi Frideman, consul for trade and ecomonic affairs, head of trade section, Consulate General of Israel, visited the city and said that over 15 delegates each from the AP and Tela-ngana government would be visiting the Israel 19th International Agriculture Exhibition in Israel to be held in April.
Ken Udai Sagar said, “The delegation from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would look at adopting the modern technologies in the field of agriculture, poultry and dairy.”
