Land ordinance against farmers’ interest: Mukul Wasnik
NDA’s ally PMK had also last month opposed the bill terming it anti farmer
Tiruchy/Chennai: AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik criticised the BJP government’s move to bring in an ordinance on land acquisition and said it was a replica of the British law of 1894. He said the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre had modified the British law to give adequate protection to people, especially the farming community.
Addressing a media conference in Tiruchy on Wednesday, Mr Wasnik pointed out that the BJP government was attempting to bring back the British law which will affect the people and that the Congress was totally against such a move.
Mr Wasnik, who is also in charge of Congress affairs in Tamil Nadu, said as per the direction of party president Sonia Gandhi, he was touring the state to hold discussions with party men on how to rebuild the party.
Meanwhile Viduthalai Chiruthaigal katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said that the land acquisition bill should be dropped as it was anti farmer. The move would only benefit the corporate sector and affect the public, he said. It may be noted that DMK since 2013 had been opposing the land acquisition bill. NDA’s ally PMK had also last month opposed the bill terming it anti farmer.
