Traffic defaulters’ vehicles seized
There are over 27,000 challans pending in 2013-14
Hyderabad: Motorists having many unpaid traffic challans can expect the police to land at their doorstep and seize their vehicles. The traffic police, which is focusing on regulating traffic during the day, has formed special teams to get top traffic violators to pay up at night.
The teams of the Hyderabad traffic police are said to be tracking down up to 100 violators a night. Recently, the traffic police had said that it would take motorists who do not pay the penalty amount in time to court. It had also introduced measures like cashless payment and e-challans.
“The enforcement drive is being intensified. There are over 27,000 challans pending in 2013-14. Challans for violations in earlier years have been waived. Top violators are being traced now, the drive will cover all violators,” said traffic inspector Srinivas Chary.
