Rail Budget 2015: Indian Railways move towards digitalisation
Mumbai: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced several proposals in the Railway Budget 2015 on Thursday. Better railway facilitites, increase in investments, cleanliness, safety and security of passengers are some of the highlights of the budget.
E-ticketing, E-catering, availability of CCTVs, smart cards and bio-toilets are the major initiatives. ‘We will introduce the 'Operation 5-minute' to help you book tickets within five minutes,’ said Suresh Prabhu.
The Indian Railways will also introduce SMS alert service to help the passengers get updates on train arrival and departure. Senior citizens can book a wheel chair service online. The E-catering facility has also been introduced. Food can be ordered from the RCTC website. Introduction of 17,300 bio-toilets will ensure better cleanliness on Railways.
Additionally, large number of CCTVs will be installed in suburban trains for women safety.
