Tussle for power from Krishnapatnam thermal station ensues
Telangana has started mounting pressure on AP, demanding its share of 53.89 % of power
Hyderabad: The power sharing row between Telangana and AP over Krishnapatnam thermal power got a fresh lease of life after the Central Electricity Authority gave its stamp of approval for the commercial operation of the 800-MW plant. A letter to this effect has reached AP Transco, it is learnt. Telangana government has started mounting pressure on AP now, demanding its share of 53.89 per cent of power.
“We wrote to the AP Transco, AP government, Union power ministry and LMRC, Bengaluru several times. AP has to supply us our share. Moreover, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, during his recent tour of Warangal assured us that he would do the needful in this regard. He must live up to his word,” Jagadish Reddy, Telangana minister for power said.
But the AP government is in no mood to share. “Ours is a new state and we are in the process of building the state and opening new fronts. We need power to attract investors. We had made it clear in the past, Krishnapatnam is not part of the older PPAs and it has no validity,” a senior official of the Energy Department pointed out. Power-starved Telangana has now sought the PM’s intervention into the matter.
