Marvel's new Spider-Man likely to be non-white?
According to reports, the new Spider-Man movie will feature the superhero as African-American or Latino
Spider-Man is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future… but Peter Parker might not be. A new rumor claims the next friendly neighborhood webslinger will not be a white man, and will not be Peter Parker.
According to AceShowbiz, yhe story was revealed by TheWrap's Jeff Sneider at a recent Meet the Movie Press session. "Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I'm telling you right now, Spider-Man's not going to be white. Spider-Man's not going to be white. I'm 95% sure. Spider-Man's going to be most likely black. But there's a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white," he was quoted saying.
As comic book adaptations have been dominating the Hollywood box office, race and gender is slowly becoming an issue, most recently with Micahel B. Jordan's casting as The Human Torch in Josh Trank's version of 'Fantastic Four.'
'Avengers' director Joss Whedon, a reported feminist of sorts, has already expressed his opinion in Hollywood not being ready to have a female-led movie. Marvel has already obliged with 'Captain Marvel,' their first release with a female lead and 'Black Panther' also being their first with a non-white lead.
