MLC polls for Teachers' constituencies: Campaigns keep teachers busy
The teachers are intensively participating in the campaign for their respective candidates
KAKINADA: Many teachers in the districts of East and West Godavari have joined the election campaign for the Teachers’ constituency polls which will be held on March 16. The teachers are intensively participating in the campaign for their respective candidates.
The teachers say the elections are taking place at an inappropriate time. Class X examinations are less than a month away. Instead of completing syllabus and preparing the students, the teachers are spending time electioneering. Parents have said students are being affected. “We are participating in the election campaign by using our leaves,” said a teachers’ union leader.
Additional joint collector D. Markandeyulu, who is monitoring the election code, said that teachers should not take up electioneering during school hours. After school hours, they are free to do so. But according to AP Chief Controller of Certifying Authorities rules, government staff, including teachers, are not allowed to participate in campaigns. “It is punishable,” said an official.
District education officer R. Narasimha Rao said that Class X syllabus had been completed and pre-final examinations are being held now. He said that the attendance of teachers would be kept under watch.
