9,000 men gather at Japan's Naked Festival
Contrary to it's name, the festival isn't all naked fun and games
Wearing only loincloths, thousands of men cram into the Saidaiji Temple in Okayama, Japan waiting for priests to drop the sacred talisman at the Hadaka Matsuri, or 'Naked Festival' on Saturday. Some 9,000 men battle to grab a pair of lucky sticks thrown by priests in this vibrant Japanese festival. The lucky recipients are guaranteed happiness for the coming year.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the ritual dates back to 1510 referencing the temple's website.

A loincloth and a paper with vital health and contact information are needed to participate in the Hadaka Matsuri, or Naked Festival thatw as held at the Saidaiji Temple on February 21.
WSJ goes on to highlight that the festival often results in injury.

Therefore those participating are warned to take their necklaces and glasses off and keep a piece of paper tucked inside their loincloth that has their name, address, emergency contact and blood type written on it.
