No role in attack: Muhammed Nisham’s wife
Kochi: A special police team on Sunday questioned the wife of controversial businessman Mohammed Nisham for close to four hours. Sources said she insisted that she had no role in the attack on security guard Chandrabose.
Ms Amal’s statement was recorded after witnesses told the police that she reached the gate of Sobha City in Thrissur in another car and boarded the Hummer in which Nisham carried the guard after knocking him down.
She said she reached the spot after Nisham called her on phone. She came to know about the presence of Chandrabose in the luxury vehicle only after it reached the garage. However, she told her interrogators that Nisham had no gun with him as claimed by the witnesses.
“We quizzed her for three and a half hours at the apartment of her relative at Mannuthy. Further details cannot be disclosed now,” said P. C. Biju Kumar, the circle inspector of Peramangalam who led the team.
Sources said the police had not included her in the list of accused and only recorded the statement. It has brightened chances of her being considered as an approver.
Ms Amal had gone into hiding after the incident and was reportedly in a relative’s house in Kochi. The police team reached Kochi on Sunday morning but was informed that she was in Mannuthy.
Ms Amal also reportedly told the police that she herself is a victim of domestic violence. A few years ago, Amal had filed a complaint with the police against her husband for domestic violence. However, Nisham settled it outside the police station and she was forced to live with him.
The police had asked her to surrender through a mediator a few days ago and served her a notice to appear before the team. Meanwhile, DGP K S Balasubramaniam said in Kozhikode that there was no bar in booking Nisham with charges under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
