Congress mum on Centre’s appeal

Excepting land ordinance, others have consensus, says Naidu

New Delhi: The Congress remained non-committal on the Centre’s appeal to cooperate on passing key bills in Parliament, with the party maintaining its floor leaders in both Houses will take a decision on a “daily basis”.

The Trinamul, that caused the washout of the Rajya Sabha’ proceedings during the Winter Session, again targeted the government for rushing through several ordinances on major economic matters. But, the Trinamul has not yet said it would disrupt the proceedings of Parliament.

With social activist Anna Hazare arriving in New Delhi on Sunday, the Opposition parties’ tone is all set to be confrontationist with the government over the ordinance on the Land Acquisition Act.

Mr Naidu, admitting that the Opposition had reservations on the land ordinance, claimed there was a consensus on other bills. JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav has said it will be a “fight to the finish” on the issue of the Land Ordinance in Parliament. Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad also said the Congress will not support those ordinances and bills which “do not help people”.
