Telangana students devise power-saving charger
The students had earlier won national prize
Karimnagar: Second-year B. Tech students of the EEE department, at Vaageshwari College of Engineering, have created a portable power saver called ‘Portable Mains Automatic Switch Device.’ The innovative device can save power while charging electronic gadgets and home appliances.
The students were participating in a two-day workshop on automatic main-switch devices. K. Ambika, one of the participants, said that the device could be used for saving power when charging a mobile phone, audio player as well as a camera.
“Usually, power is wasted if you don’t turn off switches when charging an electronic gadget. At the same time, some gadgets may even explode due to overcharging. However, this device allows a person to set a time-period in which a gadget can be recharged.”
M. Bhavani, another student, stated that they were ready to release the device in the market if anybody comes forward to invest in manufacturing it. As Telangana is witnessing power crisis, such devices are the need of the hour for saving electricity.
“We were able to learn how to apply theoretical knowledge by being involved in the designing process of this device,” said R. Spandana, P. Srikanth and N. Manideep, the other students who were part of the workshop. K. Chandramouli, the dead of the department, said that a total of 60 students attended the workshop. The students had earlier won national prize for making automatic traffic priority for ambulances, he said.
