Big Bazaar seized for not paying tax
GHMC has appealed to all residents to pay their property taxes immediately
Hyderabad: The Big Bazaar building at Kacheguda, including the Inox theatre in the premises, was seized by the Circle 8 officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for failing to clear the property tax dues amounting to Rs 5 crore. The Inox theatre alone owes Rs 1.2 crore to the corporation, said the officials.
As per the GHMC Circle 8 notice, Gayathri Hotels and Theatres, H-No 4-2- 654 to 633 Bandi Chowdi have Rs 5.4 lakh dues. Gayathri Hotels needs to pay about Rs 2.24 lakh on another property.
Compared to 2014, the GHMC has collected Rs 100 crore more till February 21, 2015. Around 66,000 commercial establishments in Greater Hyderabad have not being paying property tax for several years. The corporation has appointed 337 nodal officers and 24 supervisors for tax collection purpose.
Meanwhile, the Parishkaram programme is being conducted in every Circle on Sundays to clear the property tax cases. GHMC has appealed to all residents to pay their property taxes immediately as the government has already issued a GO, duly waiving the penal interest for the current year, stated the commissioner and special officer of the GHMC.
