Grant Andhra Pradesh special tag, says Sonia Gandhi
Special Category status to AP as promised by the UPA government
Hyderabad: In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Congress president Sonia Gandhi has accused Centre of not fulfilling the commitment to grant Special Category status to AP as promised by the UPA government on the floor of Parliament.
She reminded the Prime Minister about the commitments of the Centre towards AP. In the letter she stated that ex-PM Dr Manmohan Singh had
announced Special Status for AP on February 20, 2014 on the floor of Rajya Sabha.
“Please ensure that the Special Status to AP is announced immediately and that all commitments are met in a time bound manner and conveyed in the special address of the President to both Houses of Parliament during the commencement of the Budget session,” Ms Sonia stated.
She also urged the PM to ensure adequate resources are provided in the Budget to provide financial assistance to AP to support the construction of the capital city.
“Adequate budgetary provisions need to be made to various ministries of the Central government to enable the implementation of the development package mentioned in the AP Reorga-nisatios Act,” she added.
