Major action against VS Achuthanandan unlikely till congress, plenum
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Notwithstanding the chargesheet read out by Pinarayi Vijayan against Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, the central committee is not in favour of any hasty disciplinary action against the veteran leader including his removal from central and state committees on the eve of 21st Party Congress.
Sources said since the party Plenum is scheduled to take place soon after the Congress in Vishakhapatnam, where all ideological, organizational and tactical issues are going to be discussed in detail, the leadership does not want to rush with any disciplinary action at this stage.
But a section of central leadership expressed displeasure over the manner in which Pinarayi Vijayan rushed to the media with the copy of resolution against VS on conference eve. They felt the party leadership could have handled the issue more prudently.
However, politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at a press conference, justified the decision to make the resolution public saying that the party had no other way out once Achuthanandan’s letter appeared in a newspaper.
“The party has the right to make its stand clear on such issues. If you remain silent there will be anarchy in the party. But it was inno way disciplinary action against VS,” he added.
Meanwhile, the report on the functioning of the party during the past three years, severely criticized Achuthanandan for his continuous defiance of party discipline.
It alleged that the veteran leader had taken anti party stand on T P Chadrashekharan murder case, SNC Lavalin, Koodankulam especially after the state committee and central committee had discussed and decided these issues.
The allegation that VS tried to influence judicial officers to get Pinarayi booked in SNC Lavalin case has also been reiterated in the report quoting P Karunakaran Commission findings.
