Arrest leads to solving another murder

Accused have confessed to have murdered elderly couple in same locality in 2012
Chennai: Three persons arrested in connection with a recent murder for gain in Tirumullaivoyal were also responsible for the murder of an elderly couple in the same locality in 2012.The cops had closed the case then as the elderly couple’s death was assumed to be natural deaths. Almost three years later, the police have found the case to be a murder based on the ‘confession’ of the accused.
V. Suman (35), Muzhumathi Raja (35) and M. Anbu (26) were arrested by the Tirumullaivoyal police on Thursday in connection with the murder of a home alone elderly woman on October 30, 2014. The trio had assaulted Annalatha with an iron rod and fled with 80 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs1 lakh cash. The woman died in hospital after close to 100 days of treatment and the family spending lakhs of rupees in medical expenses.
Annalatha was an easy target as she was seen wearing a lot of jewels and one of the accused, Suman, who was living in the same locality plotted the murder, the police said.Their arrests led the police to a case in 2012, wherein elderly couple Natarajan (65) and Radhambal (60) - were found dead in their house at Palli Vinayakar Koil street in Tirumullaivoyal.
Since there were not much valuables missing from the house and those in the lockers were intact, the murder for gain angle was dismissed by the cops then. However, Suman and Raja confessed to have robbed about 10 sovereigns from the house, an investigating official said, adding that the other accused, Anbu, is not involved in the case. The trio was produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody.
