Telugu Desam set to ignore poll losers
Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam seems to have decided to field senior leaders who worked for the party in the last elections instead of those lost the polls. A key source in the TD headquarters confirmed this and stated that since the TD may get four out of five vacant MLC seats in the March elections, it is not proper to field such leaders who were defeated in last general elections as a matter of principle.
That too there are constraints for the party to consider more than one from a single community at this stage. If this principle is going to be applied by the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the names of Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, and Payyavula Kesav might be rejected for the MLC elections from Assembly quota.
“Elections are going to be held for four vacant MLC seats, this apart one bypoll caused due to death of Congress MLC Paladugu Venkata Rao, assuming YSR Congress will get one seat based on their strength maximum we get only four seats, we have to adjust several social groups among these, that is our main worry,” said the source.
There is urgent need to accommodate leaders from Muslim, Scheduled Tribes and SC women, this we cannot avoid' the source said. Agreeing that few of those defeated leaders in General elections need to be accommodated in phases that too without giving room for criticism from genuine workers and leaders who have worked for the party.
“We cannot lose leaders like Payyavula Kesav and Muddu Krishnama Naidu but they cannot be accommodated immediately, they can be considered at the time of MLC polls from Localbodies quota,” the source said.
Apart from several other communities, there are more aspirants this time from Kamma community.
“It was a fact we have several aspirants from the particular community, but we cannot consider them, renominating Govt Chief Whip Nannapaneni Rajakumari herself is a big question now, if she is renominated we cannot bring any fresh leader from the community who have worked for the party,” the Source admitted.
