Got Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G? MIUI V6 is waiting for you
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note 4G in India and it is one of the cheapest 4G-ready Android smartphones in India. The Redmi Note 4G runs on an Android-based custom operating system called MIUI, Xiaomi’s own home-brewed custom ROM. The smartphones were shipped with MIUI V5 onboard.
In late January, Xiaomi launched the 2014 flagship smartphone, the Mi 4 in India. The Mi 4 was shipped with the latest operating system from MIUI, V6. During the launch event of the Mi 4 in India, Hugo Barra, Global VP for Xiaomi, announced that the new MIUI V6 operating system was pre-installed on the Mi 4, but will also be available for the rest of the Xiaomi handsets sold in India. This includes the Redmi Note, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 1S and Mi 3 handsets. However, the handsets will receive the V6 update only a few weeks later, which falls between February and March. During this period, the update will be released over the air (OTA).
As of February 15, 2015, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G has got the update for V6. A post on the MIUI forum confirms that the Redmi Note 4G in India has been receiving the V6 update. We expected the V6 to carry the next version of Android, the Lollipop. Sadly, the V6 update rolled out for all devices till date are still based on Android KitKat v4.4.4.
The MIUI V6 update goes by the name ‘MIUI V6.3.5.0 (KHIMIBL)’ and is a stable release. So if you have registered to eth Xiaomi account, you should be seeing the update alerts on your screen. To update, make sure you have taken adequate backups. Backing up using the internal backup app from MIUI is the best option, which saves the app and the data along with it.
