Reports of TRS joining NDA government speculative, baseless: BJP

Reports claimed proposal for alliance came up during KCR’s recent meeting with Modi

Hyderabad: Dismissing media reports that TRS is likely to join the NDA government at the Centre, BJP said such stories are speculative and baseless.

"Those reports that TRS and BJP are going to become allies are speculative. In fact, there is no proposal in our party on taking a new ally into NDA or expansion of NDA," Telangana BJP spokesman Krishna Sagar Rao told reporters on Wednesday.

Reports in a section of the press claimed that the Telangana unit of BJP is ready for a tie-up with TRS and also to join the government in the new state.

The proposal for alliance also came up for discussion during Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the media reports claimed.

The BJP and TRS fought bitterly in last year's elections and the national party has been critical of the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led government in Telangana.

TDP is a constituent of the NDA and it shares power with BJP both at the Centre and in Andhra Pradesh. BJP and TDP had fought the elections together.

BJP is playing the role of a decisive opposition in the state, becoming the "voice of the voiceless", the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, recalling that Telangana bill was passed in Lok Sabha on this day (February 18) last year, he noted that the BJP had supported it unconditionally.

He proposed that the day should be observed as the Day of Support for Telangana bill.
