Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has turned down Swamy Army's request to play the Sachin Tendulkar anthem before the commencement of India's important match against Pakistan on Sunday.
"Sachin Tendulkar is a brand ambassador for the World Cup and we wanted to play this anthem before the match," Gurnam Singh, CEO, Swamy Army group said over the telephone from Australia.
Entitled ‘Sachin Tendulkar – God of Cricket’, the anthem was first written in March 2013 before being professionally recorded in time for the Tendulkar retirement in November 2013. "I passed your request onto the ICC for consideration. I have been advised that unfortunately it will not be possible to include the Anthem as part of the entertainment program for the Cricket World Cup," Rosie King, the Venue Operations Manager- Australia wrote to the Swamy Army.
"Sachin is aware about this anthem and we are disappointed. Now, the fans from both countries (India and Pakistan) will be doing national anthems." Singh said.
There is no known group of Pakistani fans in Australia. However, the famous Pakistani fan Mohammad Bashir from Chicago has reached Australia to boost the morale of the players from his country.
Bashir has been running a Mughlai restaurant in Chicago named "Ghareeb Nawaz" which specialises in biryani. He is so crazy about the sport that once he was given a complimentary ticket by Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. "We have arranged two parties before and after the match on Sunday," Singh signed off....
