Regularisation scheme abused in Telangana

4 out of 5 applications submitted under ‘free regularisation category’ were ineligible

Hyderabad: Property owners who own ground-plus-three-storey buildings on illegal plots, and are earning high rentals from such buildings, have applied for the Telangana State’s land regularisation scheme under ‘free category for poor’.

A survey conducted by revenue officials revealed that four out of five applications submitted under ‘free regularisation category’ were ineligible. It was also found that most of the applicants do not reside in these buildings and have rented the premises and are earning high rents.

In GHMC limits alone, as many as 2.13 lakh applications were received under the ‘free category’. Preliminary scrutiny of applications found that 78,110 were ineligible for free regularisation. Only 1,35,597 applications were found to be ‘eligible’ based on information provided by the applicants, which will be confirmed only after verification.

According to norms, free regularisation will be allowed only in the cases of owners residing in the premises with no portion being rented out. Moreover, the annual income of the owners should be under ' 2 lakh to claim the benefit.
