Alleged aide of Dawood Ibrahim arrested over charges in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts

Aide allegedly worked for Dawood's gang and was jailed for harbouring terrorists

Mumbai: An alleged sharpshooter wanted in connection to the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts that killed more than 250 people has been arrested in Goa, police said on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap said Sham Kishor Garikapatti, 50, allegedly worked for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's gang and was jailed for harbouring terrorists.

"We arrested him from Saligao, a village 10 km north of Panaji, where he was living in a rented room for nearly eight years," Mr Kashyap said, adding the arrest followed a tip off from an informant.

According to police, Garikapatti was allegedly involved in the 1993 Mumbai blasts executed by the Dawood gang, known in police files as 'D Company'.

Kashyap was also allegedly involved in the JJ Hospital shootout case in Mumbai more than a decade ago in which two policemen and another alleged shooter was killed.

Mr Kashyap's custody will be handed over to Mumbai Police.
