Here's why Russell Peters asked Aamir Khan to 'shut up'

The 44-year-old artist even told Mr Perfectionist to mind his own business

Mumbai: The AIB Roast had stirred up a lot of controversy with a section of the audience, including some religious organisations, protesting the content of the show.

The show, which was premiered on YouTube amidst a lot of fan fare on January 28, 2015, garnered reactions from Bollywood stars. Especially from Aamir Khan who came out in the open and strongly voiced his opinion. Following that, popular comedian Russel Peters, who is currently on his world tour, in an interview with Hindustan Times, slammed Aamir Khan’s comment by telling him to ‘shut up’ and ‘mind his own business’. "Seriously, who is he, the so-called artist, to say that he found it violent and that AIB and rest involved should have been responsible? He did not even see it! Someone please ask him to shut up and take care of his own business,” said the 44-year-old artist.

He also criticised Aamir for reacting despite not having watched the full roast himself, “He is an actor; not even a real artist. He goes in front of the camera and reads out lines that someone else has written. Then, he is giving his opinion about something that is honest!”

Meanwhile here is what Aamir was quoted saying, "First off, I want to clarify that I haven't watched the show, I have only seen a couple of clips of the roast till now. I heard more about what the show was when Karan (Johar) and Arjun (Kapoor) told me about what transpired there along with a few dialogues. On hearing what they had to share, I must say that I was deeply affected and disappointed with it."

He further went on to add that, "Trying to impress people by using abusive language is pointless. I am no longer 14-year-old who will hear abusive language and laugh. If you really want me to laugh then do so without hurting anyone. That is what I will enjoy".

The video has been taken down from YouTube but the angst remains among a large section of people.
