LPG cylinders to be sold at market price
Hyderabad: The deadline for the LPG bank account linkage in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts to obtain subsidised LPG cylinders ended on Saturday. From Sunday onward, LPG cylinders will be sold only at the market price. Over six lakh consumers in both these districts are yet to seed their LPG connections with bank accounts.
The modified Direct Benefit Transfer scheme was launched in both these districts on November 15, 2014. Consumers were given three-month time to link their LPG connections with bank accounts. Those who have linked their LPG connections to bank accounts have been purchasing cylinders at the market price since November 15, and later receiving the subsidy amount directly in their bank accounts.
Those who had not linked their accounts continued to receive cylinders at subsidised rates. But this facility will now be stopped. All the consumers will have to purchase LPG at the market price. Those who have failed to link their LPG connections so far can still reclaim subsidy, provided they complete the linkage by May 14. The arrears that will be accrued till May 14 would be paid to them.
In Hyderabad and RR districts, the total LPG connections stand at 29 lakhs. Of them, only 22.25 lakhs consumers have linked their LPG with bank accounts. At present, the market price of cylinder is Rs 675.50.
