GHMC removes dustbins post tax payment
Hyderabad: Following payments of pending property tax dues by defaulters, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation removed dustbins from the defaulters’ establishments on Friday. In a different tactic to extract pending dues, the GHMC officials on Thursday had placed community dustbins in front of the defaulters’ properties, blocking entrances.
M.S. Somaraju, the Circle 10 deputy commissioner, explained, “The GHMC had blocked the entrances to the properties of defaulters by placing dustbins at 15 places in Raj Bhavan road, Somajiguda, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills. The defaulters had been given repeated warrants with regard to the pending dues (not of the current year), few have not made tax payments since 2011. For the current year, tax payers have till March 31, the present collection is of pending dues.”
Sources, however, said that the GHMC removed the dustbins owing to the negative projection in the media and resistance with regards to placing dustbins at a time when the city was witnessing swine flu cases.
