Bengaluru police assures people security on Valentine’s Day

The reassurances have come in the wake of threats from right-wing groups

The Bengaluru city police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations of Valentine’s Day in the city.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the city police commissioner said people can celebrate Valentine’s Day without any fear.

“On the occasion of Valentine’s Day public can celebrate without any fear, there is no information of any obstruction,” Bangalore City Police Commissioner M N Reddi said in a statement.

The police will take stringent action against those disturbing peace during their celebrations.

Alok Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), told Deccan Chronicle that police would keep an eye on those trying to disturb peace.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made on MG road, Brigade road, and Commercial street, and at malls in the city.

“Generation Next work hard, party harder but don’t forget to care for yours & others loved ones. Don’t drink & drive,’’ tweeted DCP (crime) Abhishek Goyal.

The police commissioner’s assurance comes in the wake of threats in the past by right wing fringe groups to disrupt Valentine’s Day revelry by forcing young couples into marriage. This year groups like the Sri Rama Sene have called for observation of Valentine’s Day as Matha Pitha or Parents Day.
