After Delhi poll debacle, PM Modi forms core monitoring panel
New Delhi: Stunned by the defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has swung into action to give the economic activity in the country a major impetus and has decided to constitute a core committee within the PMO that will directly monitor all significant infrastructure projects including ports, highways, railways, power and airports. The committee will also closely monitor flow of FDI investments into the country, which have a direct bearing on the country’s economic growth.
Highly-placed government sources said the PMO team will be tasked with primarily two things. Firstly, it will monitor that “time-bound clearance” is given for important infrastructure projects by multiple agencies and that these are also completed within the stipulated deadline.
“Having realised that the voters want delivery and performance, the PM will be seen playing a more pro-active role in the days ahead. And economic growth and development will on top of Government’s agenda,’’a senior Government functionary said.
The core team in the PMO, sources added, could be headed by a senior bureaucrat or a professional could also be roped in for this purpose.
According to the proposed plan, this team will deal directly on a daily basis with important ministries like finance, environment, shipping, railways, highways and power to review the status regarding clearance and implementation of infrastructure projects.
There will be dedicated officers in the team to deal with each Ministry.
