Report finds errors in Telangana power share
Hyderabad: The power utilities of Telangana have decided to make a coursecorrection in the light of the grave abnormalities that were exposed in the Aggregate Annual Reports submitted a few days back. The ARRs have shown that the share of Telangana discoms is 52.12 per cent instead of the 53.89 per cent, which was actually mentioned in the AP
Reorganisation Act. The discoms have taken into account the power supplied from Machkund and Tungabhadra plants on the basis of population. According to the Act, power sharing between the two states is not on the basis of population, but on the basis of power supplied to the discoms. Interestingly, the discoms have played into the hands of Andhra Pradesh which has been arguing that the power sharing shall be not on the basis of supply (to discoms) but on the basis of consumption (of discoms). AP has even filed an appeal before the Centre to reduce the quantity from 53.89 per cent to 52.12 per cent. Now, the ARRs of the TS power distribution company and Tamil Nadu PDCL have supported AP’s view. “We will carry out a course correction. I will discuss the issue with our chief managing director and take a decision,” TSPDCL chief Raghuma Reddy said. A revised ARR will be sent to the electricity regulation commission shortly, said Transco sources.
