Beijing: Chinese state media says China's leader Xi Jinping will make his first state visit to the U.S. in September.

Xinhua News Agency announced the trip on Wednesday, saying Xi had accepted Obama's invitation. The announcement followed a telephone call between the two leaders overnight, and came as U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken was in Beijing to meet Chinese officials.

The U.S. and China have been working together on a range of high-profile issues, including pledging in November to cut back on their emissions of greenhouse gases. The world's biggest economies have also clashed diplomatically on several fronts, including cyber-espionage allegations and Chinese actions asserting its maritime territorial claims.
