Arvind Kejriwal’s D-Day on Valentine’s Day

AAP's tryst with Feb 14 continues as Kejriwal had quit the govt on the same date last year

New Delhi: The national capital, that was under the rule of lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung for almost a year, will finally get a new government on February 14. Led by national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, the two-year old Aam Aadmi Party, which scripted a huge victory by sweeping 67 out of the Delhi Assembly’s 70 seats, will take the oath on Saturday at Ramlila Maidan.

The party’s tryst with February 14 continues as Mr Kejriwal and his Cabinet had quit the government on the same date last year. It will probably be the AAP’s biggest Valentine’s Day gift to Delhiites. The CM, Mr Kejriwal, who in 2013 had formed a minority government, will form a majority government this time. Speculation is rife that the AAP might rejig faces for the six Cabinet berths and some new faces, like Alka Lamba, may enter the ministry. Ms Lamba, who decimated Congress’ four-time MLA Prahlad Singh Sawhney, may get a berth replacing Rakhi Bidlan.

There are also indications that after former Speaker M.S. Dheer quit the party, former law minister Somnath Bharti or senior leader Gopal Rai may be the new Speaker. Other names circulating include Mr Kejriwal’s close aide and former education minister Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Jain, former health minister, and Girish Soni, former SC/ST minister.
