BJP’s sidelined old guards happy
New Delhi: Humiliating defeat in the Delhi state elections might come as a rude shock to top BJP leaders including Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley, but it brought smiles to a few old guards who have been marginalised.
Sidelined by the new regime in the BJP, which took over after Lok Sabha elections, some of the old hawks like L.K. Advani and M.M. Joshi have been sidelined and were never even called for campaigning.
Citing age bar, Mr Advani and Mr Joshi were kept out of the government and were also removed from party’s highest decision-making body, the parliamentary board. Both were made members of ‘Margdarshak Mandal’, which has never met since it was formed last year.
“The results clearly show that BJP has lost connect with the people. BJP’s entire leadership from across the nation was involved in Delhi and still the party lost badly. It is time that BJP involves all its leaders,” said a senior BJP leader.
There is a growing feeling among party leaders and workers that the saffron party is losing track of promises that it had made during Lok Sabha elections.
