New land Act to affect nuclear plant
Hyderabad: Infrastructure work at the 9,564 mw nuclear power plant in Ranasthalam mandal of Kovvada in Srikakulam district will be delayed as the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd was asked to acquire land as per the new land acquisition rules. Official sources say this will mean a delay of at least six months.
The NPCIL has to apply afresh for acquiring at least 2,500 acres which had been earmarked for the plant under the new policy. It was learnt that relief and rehabilitation measures will also be revisited.
Nearly 14 villages will be affected as they will come within the 5-km radius which was declared as a sterilized zone where no new permanent structures will be allowed.Since compensation has not been given to the affected villages even till this day, the state government has expressed its displeasure over this.“In Kovvada, from our side, there will not be any delay. We will provide all the necessary permissions as and when we apply,” Vijayanand, chief managing director of AP Transco said.
