Andhra Pradesh’s wakf board to be bifurcated

Centre has agreed to speed up the bifurcation of the Board besides extending support to Telangana government

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Wakf Board will be bifurcated soon. The Centre has agreed to speed up the bifurcation of the Board besides extending full support to Telangana government with centrally
sponsored schemes for minorities’ welfare. Union minister for minority affairs, Najma Heptullah, gave this assurance when Deputy Chief Minister, Mohd Mahamood Ali, met her along with state officials from the minorities welfare department in New Delhi on Tuesday.

She promised to send Union minorities secretary to Hyderabad on February 18 to initiate steps for bifurcation of the Wakf board. Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has been requesting the Centre to help bifurcate the state institutions quicker.

The institutions listed in AP Reorganisation Act continue to be manned jointly thereby leading to problems between the two newly carved states. Ms. Heptullah promised full support to the state government, and considered releasing more funds. Ms Heptullah reportedly told them that this was the first time a delegation from any state had called on her to review implementation
of welfare schemes.
