Swine flu toll climbs to 53 in Telangana

The number of suspected cases in Gandhi Hospital is still as high as 35

Hyderabad: A 65-year-old man from Karimnagar, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital for H1N1, died on Monday morning taking the death toll to 53 in the state.

The patient was also suffering from neurological disorders and had recently had a stroke. Although the total number of samples that have tested positive for H1N1 have come down due to the rise in temperature, doctors still advice people be careful. The states like Rajasthan (81 deaths) and Gujarat (71 deaths) have have had a large number of deaths and people traveling to these states for business purposes have been told to be careful. Many businessmen visit the cloth market, hardware and also glass units in both these states.

A senior health department officer in Hyderabad said, “The public health centres and the epidemiologists who are moving around various parts of the city have been asked to spread a word of caution to traders. The traders' associations too have been alerted.”

An officer said, ?We have been able to control the numbers here, and it is important to be alert people of cross-state transmissions.? The number of suspected cases in Gandhi Hospital is still as high as 35. The out-patient unit also is seeing 10 to 15 positive cases per day while 11 positive patients are undergoing treatment.
