J&K government orders inquiry into death of youth in forces' firing

19-year-old youth died in security forces firing at Palhallan

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the firing incident that led to the death of a youth in Palhallan area of Baramulla district on Monday.

"Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Talat Parvaiz has set up an inquiry committee to investigate the unfortunate death of a youth at Palhalan on February 9, 2015," an official spokesman said.

He said the inquiry committee will be headed by Sub Divisional Magistrate, Pattan.

"The inquiry committee has been directed to submit their report at an earliest," the spokesman said.

A 19-year-old youth, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, died in security forces firing at Palhallan on Monday during protests to mark the second death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.

The Deputy Commissioner said an FIR has already been lodged in this matter and strict action will be taken against the culprits.

Meanwhile, Parvaiz has assured the relatives of the deceased of every possible help saying that justice will be done in this matter and culprits behind this unfortunate incident will be taken to task.

The spokesman said anybody who has any information about the incident can submit a statement in the office of the inquiry officer at Pattan.
