HCA facilities to be cut for not clearing tax
Hyderabad: Failing to pay an outstanding tax amount of Rs 12.06 crore, the Hyderabad Cricket Association may see essential civic facilities being suspended from Tuesday. The Association owns 35% to the civic body.
The Industrial Area Local Authority and GHMC had issued warrants to HCA on February 6 for not clearing tax dues since 2009, amounting to Rs 12.06 crore. The HCA was given a 48-hour deadline that ended on February 9 (Monday).
However, the HCA has not cleared any of the dues yet. Raghu Prasad, the East Zone Commissioner, GHMC, said, “On February 6, GHMC had seized three chairs, belonging to the president, vice-president and secretary of the association, apart from a xerox machine. The warrants were issued stating that Monday was the deadline to pay the total outstanding amount. However, the association has not made any payments yet, and therefore, the essential civic amenities will be disconnected. A team will visit the stadium on Tuesday.”
The HCA officials have not been able to present their case before the GHMC commissioner so far. K. John Manoj, the HCA secretary, said, “The land and the established stadium belongs to the government, not the HCA. So we’ll have to abide by what the government tells us. Earlier, the HCA committee had requested that the stadium be exempted from paying property tax, but those talks were abandoned halfway through. The association couldn’t meet the commissioner, as he was busy in a meeting with the Chief Minister. I’ll have to meet him and the GHMC officials, only then can we plan our future course of action.” Mr John Manoj confirmed that the HCA has not made any payment yet.
