Ban on use of plastic not possible in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Making it clear that banning the use of plastic was neither possible nor legal and that plastic could be used within the prescribed limit, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State governments to work towards clean civic life.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a petition by Vishaka Society for Protection and Care of Animals seeking a directive to impose a total ban on the manufacture, use and circulation of all varieties of plastic bags being used for packing.
Shyam Agarwal counsel for the petitioner submitted that it was time to put in place garbage collection and treatment devices in the both the states and to create awareness among the public about the ill effects of indiscriminate use of plastic bags by advertisements through media both audio and visual.
The bench observed that the civic authorities needed to consider the employment of a whistle boy to collect the garbage from homes at the cost of the citizens and ensure that it is transported for recycling and waste segregation for proper disposal.
